Lelu Lekatariba Lamina-Tchaï Ekbat De Sebat also known as Leeloo is one of the supreme beings of the universe. She was sent in corporeal form to earth in order to complete the final piece of a powerful weapon named The Fifth Element, which is able to destroy the great evil.
Mechanoid aliens arrive at the ancient Egyptian temple to collect the four elemental stones and a bronze sarcophagus containing the body of the Fifth element in human form in 1914. Knowing that the weapon was designed to defeat a dark entity known as the Great Evil every 5,000 years, the aliens called Mondoshawans promise the temple's current human priest that they will bring the weapons components to earth before the great evil arrives three centuries later. They leave the priest with a single bronzed key, which is to be used to open the secret room in the temple for arrangement of the weapon. The priest promises to keep it safe and is passing his knowledge on to his successors until they return.
Three centuries later, the current priest Vito Cornelius preserves the key in his apartment in a dystopian future where the most of the green planet is industrialized by humans. He patiently awaits the arrival of the stones and the Fifth Element along with his apprentice David. The Mondoshawans are en route to earth to return the stones and sarcophagus as promised when their ship is attacked by a fleet of Mangalores.The ship of the Mondoshawans is destroyed, leaving nothing more then an mangled right forearm of a sleeping Supreme Being in the wreckage. The severed forearm is transported to a laboratory in New York where its DNA isolated is analyzed and studied by earth scientists. The DNA (contains over 200,000 memo groups) is far superior to human DNA (contains 40 memo groups). The lead scientist describes the DNA of the being as being "tightly packed, with infinite genetic knowledge, almost as if this being was...engineered. He describes the cells as being perfect and a few cells are still viable in the arm. He reconstructs the being by using the isolated DNA and a complex machine that puts the being together part by part. He begins with the skeleton followed by the muscles, organs and finally exposes the body to ultraviolet radiation, forcing the body to protects itself against UV damage by growing skin and hair. The entire process is explained by the lead scientist to a skeptical General Munro, who is less than enthusiastic about the being's revival. He informs the scientist that he hopes that the being is "friendly", stating his intent to destroy the being with a card-activated destruction system, when it goes awry. It turns out that the being is an woman named ''Leeloo'' when the covering shield is removed during its immersion in UV ligh. General Munro appears awestruck to see a perfectly-formed human woman.
She escapes out the laboratory through the ventilation system. The dumbfounded scientist stares simply ahead, and utters only one word: Perfect. She discovers that she has no file or identity in their onboard systems, while the police busy is to finding her. The police attempts to arrest her when she is trapped on the roof. She then dives from the ledge of the building and falls through the roof of Korben Dallas's cab. He does great effort to ignore police orders, while he manages to escape into the thick fog at the city floor. Leeloo pleads with Korben to take her to a priest named Vito Cornelius before she is fainted. The form of Great Evil is changed in a massive, sentient, dark planet who travels across the universe in order to reach Earth. There is occasionally contact with Zorg to check on his progress with obtaining the stones, so his attempts to destroy Earth won't be interrupted. Priest Vito was already expecting Leeloo, who immediately recognizes her as the Supreme being. Korben has roused her at consciousness by gently kissing her. She repeats angrily ''Seno ekto gamat!'' what Vito translates as "Never without my permission". Leeloo explains to Cornelius and David that the Mondoshawans have given the elemental stones to someone they trusted. The plan was to have contact with this individual on her arrival. They reveal that this individual was located on planet Fhloston in the Angel constellation after careful tracking. Vito immediately begins making preparations to arrange a ship to this location.
Korben wins tickets to Fhloston Paradise on the planet Fhloston after false playing. He goes inside the space ship as married couple with Leeloo at the boarding station. They travel together with David to the luxurious hotel in Fhloston Paradise. Leeloo has finally learned English during this trip and makes contact with Diva Plavalaguna the woman who carries the stones. She tells her that she later gives where she came for. She fights later alone against dozens of brutish Mangalores who have arrived to claim the stones, during an appropriate background of opera sung by the Diva during a performance. She picks up a case with the stones in the room of Diva but is stopped by Zorg who has boarded the ship, in order to use them for his own purposes. He coerces Leeloo to give the stones to him, under threat of a high-powered gun. He notices that the stones are gone, when he has the briefcase. Leeloo attempts to escape through the vents in the ceiling of the room in the meanwhile.
He promptly opens fire on her and has gravely injuried her. He set the timer of a bomb on 20 minutes in the hotel and leaves her for death behind. She remains in the vents and is unable to escape due her injuries and weakness. Korben runs to her after seeing her hand outside the vents on the security footage. Leeloo and the others go on board of the ship where Zorg arrived with and they escape from the hotel on time before it explodes. The group travels to the temple where they meet up Vito. Korben has removed the stones out the body of the slain Diva which are put in proper position. She is carried to the center, but is unwilling to assist in saving the planet, due to the lack of regard that humans seem to have for their lives, as evidenced by the brutal war images that she watched during her transport. Korben reminds her to beautiful things, like love, are worth preserving. She was unfamiliar with love because she was was built as weapon. She pleads with Korben to tell her why he needed her, while he admits that he was in love with her. Leeloo uses the power of the stones in order to create the Divine Light, which destroys the oncoming Great Evil in just seconds before it destroys the earth. Korben and Leeloo recover from their mission in a special revitalizing chamber in the same New York laboratory where Leeloo was recreated.
She's one of the supreme beings of the universe, who genetically superior is to humans and virtually flawless. She's a perfect specimen of human health and fitness.
